To commemorate Eleanor Roosevelt’s debut on my next batch of trading cards, my friend Randy and I visited her home, Val-Kill Cottage, and Val-Kill Industries.

This misspelled nameplate was a gift from some young children. She kept it on her desk in case they ever visited again. Also, she was thrifty.

These chairs threw me a bit. They seemed so … incongruous. Not right for the time period. Like, the chairs are more modern than Eleanor… but that’s not true.

Heather Rogers, America's Preeminent Presidential Doodler

Heather isn’t a historian, an academic, or an impartial storyteller… but she has read more than one book about every U.S. president. Out of spite. She was dubbed America’s Preeminent Presidential Doodler by one of her favorite authors and she’s been repeating it ever since. When she’s not reading or doodling history books, she’s a freelance graphic designer and illustrator.
