  • To pay for college, he got a job coaching football and (during the off season) coaching boxing. He’d never boxed before.

  • Brought in to replace the super-duper corrupt Spiro Agnew so that when Nixon was ousted, he wouldn’t be replaced with someone even worse.

  • A tamale faux-pas may have cost him Texas (it was the last time Texas went Democrat).
