9 Things
ISSUE NO. 55 // 9 Things
It’s summer and a little chaotic over here.
I’m cutting myself some slack with this issue. If you’re new here, this is not a typical POTUS Notice.
Instead of my regular programming, here’s a collection of 9 things I wanted to tell you since we last talked. It’s maybe three or four parts informative and maybe four or five parts casually braggy and/or semi self-serving.
Maybe.
Don’t check my math.
Thanks for being here. Enjoy the rest of your summer!

I just finished reading American Lion: Andrew Jackson in the White House, by Jon Meacham. Loved it. Flip through my sketchbook, if you want.
2
I couldn’t stop talking about Andrew Jackson!! Did not expect to have so much fun sharing doodles about him.
3
I disappointingly learned that my go-to Martin Van Buren fact isn’t a fact at all! Thankfully, I learned this before my MVB presentation on August 14.
4
I thought maybe I’d share an oldie but a goodie… my hottest post yet 🔥
5
I stumbled on Broad History!! 😍 Isabelle shares familiar stories from history—but with women! I’d love to suggest an episode to start with, but I can’t. They’re all too good. (This one includes a few of my doodles. Plus, it’s completely fascinating.)

I’m excited to toast our 250th and play croquet on a Founding Father’s lawn in a couple of weeks.
7
I eagerly await posts from In Pursuit every Tuesday. They share “lessons from the American Experiment” each week on Substack. For free! Subscribe or follow here.

I’ve been stuck in the 17- and 1800s lately, but I just started reading You Can’t Catch Us: Lady Bird Johnson’s Trailblazing 1964 Campaign Train and the Women Who Rode with Her by Shannon McKenna Schmidt. Unsurprisingly, it’s fabulous.

I drew live on Substack with America’s Favorite Author, Bob Shea! We chatted about the creative process and a bit about history, while I tried to draw something I could use an upcoming presentation. Didn’t really work (see the doodle at the top). It was fun nevertheless.
(A little informative. A little braggy.)
